Evansville casino sees big boost with move to on-shore site

A southwestern Indiana casino saw a big jump in business with the opening of its new $50 million on-shore facility.

State reports show that Tropicana Evansville had a gross revenue jump during November of about $3.1 million, or 36 percent, compared to a year ago. That increase comes after the new casino opened Oct. 20, replacing the riverboat it had occupied since its 1995 opening along the Ohio River.

Casino general manager John Chaszar tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the business boost is meeting expectations with the move to the new facility.

Tropicana Evansville was the first of Indiana's 10 riverboats to move onto land under a state law change approved by legislators and then-Gov. Mike Pence in 2015 in response to greater competition from neighboring states.
