Armed robber pulls off heist at Bellagio casino, is still at large

An armed robber held up a poker cage in the Bellagio Hotel & Casino on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The suspect, described as a white male wearing a mask, quietly walked over to the cage with a handgun around 3:45 p.m. and demanded an unspecified amount of money before fleeing, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

Cops said the teller remained calm and gave him the cash, hoping not to startle guests.

Officers arrived on the scene soon-after, but the gunman was already gone.

Actor James Woods was apparently inside the Bellagio during the robbery and gave a first-hand account of it on Twitter.

“So we are playing poker at the @BellagioPoker and a guy walks up with a gun and robs the cage thirty feet from us ten minutes ago,” he tweeted. “@Bellagio staff were fantastic. They surrendered the money quietly, so no customers would get hurt. Nobody even realized it was happening. Excellent staff, cool under pressure.”

Woods added, “The @Bellagio security made a point of not engaging him after the actual robbery to guarantee the safety of their customers.”

Las Vegas police have asked residents to be on the lookout for a silver Chevrolet Cruze with Nevada license plates, which the suspect is believed to be driving.

MGM Resorts International, which owns the Bellagio, says its working with investigators to identify the man.

Ironically, the casino has become a symbol for Las Vegas heists since appearing in the 2001 film, “Ocean’s Eleven.” Unlike the movie, though, the suspect in Tuesday’s robbery was believed to have been working alone.
