Nevada football assistant coach crashes car into Nugget Casino, arrested for DUI

A Nevada football coach has been arrested after crashing his vehicle into the Nugget Casino and fleeing the scene late Friday night in Sparks, according to Sparks police.

Police say at around 11:41 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, an officer in an unmarked police vehicle saw a reckless driver, identified as 27-year-old Jeffery Nady, a former Nevada football standout and current Wolf Pack assistant coach, on Interstate 80 exiting onto Pyramid Way when he struck an exit sign and drove away. Nady continued westbound on Nugget Avenue and tried to make a turn onto northbound 11th Street when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Nugget Casino Resort. He left his vehicle and ran into the resort when he was apprehended by Sparks police.

Police say there were no injuries reported.

Nady was booked into the Washoe County Jail for DUI-alcohol, open container in a vehicle, intoxicated person in possession of a firearm, reckless driving, obstructing of a police officer and leaving the scene of an accident.

The university released a statement to News 4-Fox 11 regarding the incident:

“We are aware of the incident and are gathering more information at this time," Nevada spokesperson Chad Hartley said. "Jeff has been suspended from football-related activities as the legal process continues."

Nady, a former Douglas High School and Nevada offensive lineman who went on to play in the NFL and Arena Football League, is an offensive graduate assistant for the Wolf Pack (1-7), who are on their bye week.
