The iconic Golden Gate Hotel and Casino has stood in Las Vegas for over 100 years.

The long-standing casino was built in 1906, but now in 2017 it has all the modern amenities – and the casino’s expansion is being unveiled just in time for the Labor Day weekend.

The Golden Gate’s expansion takes up the area once occupied by the now-defunct La Bayou casino, along with land that was once an alley way near the property. As a result, the Golden Gate’s casino floor is now double its original size.

Outside on Fremont Street, the OneBar has also been expanded and is now only one foot shorter than the longest downtown bar, which is at The D Casino and Hotel.

Golden Gate Hotel and Casino owner Derek Stevens joined Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and others on Friday to cut the ribbon for the official grand opening of the expansion.

The expansion included nearly doubling the casino floor, redesigning the Hotel's Freemont Street entrance and extending Onebar located just outside of that entrance 20 feet.

Fast forward 111 years and you have the newest casino in Downtown Las Vegas. Stevens says they've come a long way.

"It's been here since 1906 but this is the re-grand opening. We were able to work with the city and it's a big upgrade from the alley that used to be here not that long ago," said Stevens.

Stevens also bought the property right across the way here which included the Las Vegas Club. He didn’t tell us what he's planning on doing with it yet, but he's planning something big.
