A 27-year-old Huntington Beach man died after suffering a fall at Pechanga Resort and Casino over the weekend, and while sheriff’s officials are investigating, they say it appears to have been an accidental death.

Robert Flores died at 1:20 p.m. Monday, July 10, at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, according to coroner’s Sgt. Brent Sechrest.

Sechrest said that Flores appears to have fallen from an escalator a little before midnight Saturday and that there was video footage showing what happened. The Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Riverside County sheriff’s Deputy Mike Vasquez said the incident was being investigated as an accidental death and there were no signs of foul play.

Michael Jauregui, who identified himself as the victim’s uncle, said by phone Monday that several family members had taken a day trip from Huntington Beach to the casino on the Pechanga Reservation near Temecula.

Flores told two brothers he was going to the bathroom, and that was the last they saw of him, Jauregui said. His family was alerted to Flores’ fall after a public address system paged Flores’ father.

Relatives had not succeeded in getting more information about the circumstances from Pechanga security personnel who gave Flores’ mother an incident report number, Jauregui said.

Ciara Green, a spokeswoman for the resort and casino, said in a written statement: “We are very saddened to learn of this tragedy and extend our deepest condolences to the family. We are working with local law enforcement on this incident.”
