March casino revenue in South Mississippi up 1.7 percent

The 12 Coast casinos posted the first $100 million-plus month in March, at $110.1 in gross casino revenue, but the total for the first quarter is running $4 million behind last year.

LuAnn Pappas, president and CEO of Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort, said March was the casino’s second-best month since it opened in D’Iberville in December 2015.

Revenue on the Coast increased by $6.9 million, or 6.7 percent, compared with March 2016. Revenue at the river casinos rose 7.6 percent, bumping the total for Mississippi to $202 million from $188 million last year.

For the first quarter, the casino revenue in South Mississippi stands at $304.4 million compared with $308.5 million for the first quarter in 2016, according to numbers from the state Department of Revenue.
