del Lago Resort first look: Upstate's newest casino opens Wednesday

TYRE, N.Y. --The 2,000 slot machines are primed, the glasses are ready for drinks and the food at the Farmers Market Buffet is ready. Everything is set for opening day at del Lago Resort & Casino, Upstate's newest casino.

The resort at 1133 Route 414 in Tyre just off Exit 41 on the New York State Thruway invited Syracuse.com to a preview of the 94,000 square-foot casino on Sunday. It opens to the general public at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The $440 million hotel-casino complex is a partnership between Rochester developer Wilmorite and JNB Gaming from Iowa. A 205-room hotel, spa and restaurant will open this summer.

The de Lago features 2,000 slot machines where guests may use a pad to order drinks to be delivered to them. It also has 77 table games such as blackjack, craps and roulette. And it has 12 poker tables.

There is a buffet, the Portico by Fabio Viviani, and a food court. The Centrifico lounge is located in the heart of the casino.

The Vine, concert venue that fits 2,400, hosts Bad Company as its first concert on Feb. 10. (The tickets are sold out.) And there are more acts to follow such as Flo Rida, comedians Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall, Dustin Lynch, Trace Adkins and Joan Jett and the Black Hearts.

del Lago is one of four Upstate casinos awarded licenses after New York authorized state-regulated gambling facilities in 2013.

Tioga Downs in Nichols was the first to open on Dec. 2. del Lago opens Wednesday, followed by Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady on Feb. 8. The Montreign Casino in the Catskills is scheduled to open early next year.
