Jack Cleveland Casino says high payouts led to revenue decline: casino, racino monthly reports

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jack Cleveland Casino's 10 percent monthly revenue decline can be attributed to high payouts at slots and table games, an official said.

While the Hollywood casinos in Toledo and Columbus saw revenue increases, the Jack casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati saw declines in October.

Jack Cleveland's monthly revenue was $15.3 million. That compares to $17 million in revenue in September and $17.9 million in October 2015, according to the monthly report from the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

"Once again, Jack Cleveland Casino had the highest payout on slots of any casino in the state, and of any gaming destination in Northeast Ohio," Mark Tricano, senior vice president of operations, said in a statement. "In addition to playing lucky on the slots, our guests also won more money on table games at our casino than at any other Ohio casino."

The Cleveland casino's slot payout in October was 92.53 percent, compared to 91.71 percent in Cincinnati, 91.88 percent in Columbus and 90.96 percent in Toledo.

The Cleveland casino's table game revenue represents about half its total revenue, unlike other casinos, which rely more on slot revenue. Jack Cleveland's table game payout in October was 80.85 percent compared to 76.5 percent in September.

Statewide casino revenue was $62.6 million in October, compared to $66.8 million in October 2015 and $63.8 million in October 2014, according to the casino control commission.

Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park had a strong month with $18.6 million in revenue, the highest of the four casinos and seven racinos in the state.

Statewide racino revenue was $74.6 million in October, compared to $70 million in October 2015, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission.

Jack Thistledown Racino, with $9.6 million in revenue, saw an slight decrease compared to September.

The state commission and lottery defines revenue as the money left after casinos and racinos pay winners and deduct for promotions.

Casino and racino officials say year-over-year comparisons typically provide a more accurate reflection of performance than comparing one month to the previous one.

Jack Entertainment, formerly Rock Gaming, owns the casinos in Cleveland and Cincinnati and Jack Thistledown Racino.

Hard Rock Rocksino is a joint venture between Hard Rock International and Northfield Park.

Penn National Gaming owns the Hollywood casinos in Columbus and Toledo and the racinos near Youngstown and Dayton.
