SIOUX FALLS, SD - The new Grand Falls casino and resort under construction in Lyon County, Iowa, is expected to draw visitors from around the area.  So how do Sioux Falls voters feel about it?  As part of the KELO-TV/Argus Leader Campaign 2010 poll, we asked 400 registered voters from Sioux Falls if they plan on visiting the casino that is currently under construction near Larchwood.

The majority of those asked, 63 percent, say they do not plan on going to the casino. Less than a third of voters, 29 percent, said they would visit it and eight percent are not sure.

When construction plans were first announced, some people suggested building a new casino in southeastern South Dakota to compete with the Lyon County, Iowa, resort. But Sioux Falls voters are against that plan, according to our poll. 65 percent say they oppose building a competing casino. Nearly a fifth of voters, 19 percent, are undecided and 16 percent like the idea.

The poll has a margin for error of plus or minus five percent.

Before a competing casino could be built in South Dakota, gambling laws would have to be changed.  Currently, casino gambling in the state is only allowed in Deadwood and on reservations.

As part of the statewide KELO-TV/Argus Leader Campaign 2010 poll, we asked 800 registered voters across the state if they think gambling should be allowed in additional areas of the state. A majority of poll participants, 63 percent, say it should not be expanded. Just 28 percent say it should be allowed in more areas and nine percent are not sure.

The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 3.5 percent.
