Buoyed by a 20 percent jump in table game revenue, Lumière Place casino was a star last month in the St. Louis gaming market.

January was the second consecutive solid month for Lumière, on the St. Louis riverfront. Its revenue in January grew by 4.9 percent, to $11.1 million, according to figures released Wednesday by the Missouri Gaming Commission. Lumière also had a strong showing in December, when a 45 percent jump in revenue from table games — roulette and the like — boosted winnings by 12 percent.

Only the Casino Queen, in East St. Louis, surpassed Lumière in winnings growth. The Queen’s January revenue rose by 8 percent, to $8.8 million, compared with January 2015, according to the Illinois Gaming Board.

In contrast, the Argosy Alton casino had a second bad month because of flooding on the Mississippi River. Floodwater forced the casino to close from Dec. 28 until 5 p.m. Jan. 3. But high water covered the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 67 in West Alton until Jan. 13. As a result, Argosy’s customers from Missouri had limited access to the Clark Bridge, just south of the casino, for more than two weeks, said Michael Barker, the casino’s marketing director.

Gaming board figures show that Argosy Alton’s January revenue fell by 25 percent, to $3.6 million. That followed a 23 percent plunge in December.

Overall revenue at the area’s six gambling halls was flat in January, at $82.1 million.
