The state of Nevada is highly reliant on its casino gambling industry to produce big profits. The tax revenue generated

from the casinos goes towards balancing the state budget, and when the casinos struggle, the effects are felt throughout the state.

The Golden Nugget is one of those Las Vegas casinos that has been a driving force behind many state programs, and the casino has struggled in recent years since the economic recession. On Thursday, another issue disrupted gambling at the casino.

Shortly before 2PM on Thursday, the Golden Nugget experienced a power outage. The casino had to shut down their gaming floor, and patrons could not return for several hours. When 4PM arrived, the casino power was back, but revenue was lost for a short period and the damage had already been done.

NV Energy, the company responsible for providing the power at the Golden Nugget and throughout Las Vegas, claims that the outage occurred after someone hit a cable while digging underground in the area. None of the other casinos in Sin City were affected by the outage.

The Golden Nugget was able to get power restored through an emergency system, and patrons were able to re-enter the casino they had evacuated after just about a half an hour. The credits that were in the slot machines at the time the power was knocked out were all restored.

Las Vegas and Atlantic City have both struggled with the economic conditions in the US in recent years. Atlantic City has also been hurt by competition from neighboring states, while Nevada has lost thousands of Asian gamblers who now frequent Macau casinos.
