Last-minute lobbying precedes Milford casino vote - News Local Massachusetts

MILFORD — There aren’t many major intersections in this quiet town of about 27,000 people, which lies more than 40 miles southwest of Boston, off Interstate 495.

But with residents set to vote Tuesday on whether to approve a proposed $1 million resort casino, it seemed on Saturday that vocal activists both for and against the project stood at every corner.

Proponents say a casino will inject new life into Milford’s economy and create a more vibrant night life, while opponents say a casino will overwhelm the town with traffic.

Unlike other communities that have taken recent casino votes, Milford residents have not been widely polled on their casino ballot question, leaving proponents and opponents frantically waving signs and making phone calls to undecided voters in the final days before the vote.
