Casino winner fights off thieves - Cherry Hill Courier Post

CINNAMINSON — Police are investigating whether three would-be thieves followed a lucky casino winner home and assaulted him in an attempt to gain his winnings.

The 26-year-old victim managed to overcome his assailants, who fled after the victim fought back

and shouted for police.According to Cinnaminson police, the victim was at the SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia on Saturday night and won close to $2,000. He took a cab home and was dropped off about one block from his home in the 200 block of Perry Road.As he was walking home, he was struck on the head and fell to the ground on the front lawn of a neighbor's home, police said.At first, the victim thought he was struck by a falling tree branch, but instead it was two males, both armed with handguns, yelling at him to "Give up," according to police.One of the men yelled to the other to "Pop him, pop him," and the other man tried to strike the victim with the butt of his gun. The victim then wrestled that man to the ground, while the other fell after tripping on his baggy pants."Call for police," the victim then yelled and the two men fled, along with a third man. The victim was able to call police on his cell phone.The victim was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro and was treated for a serious cut on his skull, as well as lacerations on his face and left side.Police are working with SugarHouse security and plan to review the security tapes to see if suspects can be seen watching and following the victim.Reach Shruti Mathur Desai at (856) 317-7828 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
