Cordish Brings In Heavy Hitters To Sway Gambling Vote In Maryland - Casino Gambling Web

Developer David Cordish has become a major player in the casino gambling industry in the past decade, and he is intent on making his presence felt in Maryland. A ballot initiative in the upcoming mid-term elections will decide whether or not Cordish brings his plan to fruition.

Currently, Cordish is locked in a battle with the group, Stop Slots at

the Mall. Th group has been successful in getting a ballot initiative on the ballot that will ask voters whether or not to approve zoning that will allow slots at the mall.

The voters of Anne Arundel County will decide the issue without help from other residents in the state, and Cordish recently unveiled all of the possibilities if the zoning is approved. Celebrity powered entertainment and restaurant venues are just a portion of Cordish's plan.

Ruth's Crist Steakhouse, Obrycki's Crab House and Seafood Restaurant, Cheesecake Factory, and a restaurant designed by Bobby Flay are some of the tenants that Cordish has reached agreements with should his plan proceed. The big names could help swing Anne Arundel residents to vote in favor of the zoning.

The group opposing the casino at the mall wants the slots to go to Laurel park. Only one location can have the slots, so if the zoning is accepted, Laurel Park would have no opportunity to gain slots. If the zoning is rejected, the bidding process would begin once again.

Maryland recently became the latest Northeastern state to add casino gambling. The Northeast has become a hotbed for casinos, with Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York authorizing new casinos. In New Jersey, the Atlantic City casino industry has suffered due to the expansion at neighboring states.

In addition to the high profile restaurants, Cordish will open a slot facility with almost 5,000 slot machines. Rams Head will also be bringing an entertainment venue to the facility.
