2 companies make case for a Springfield casino - News

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two developers vying to open a casino in Springfield have taken their cases straight to the city’s people.

MGM Resorts and Penn National Gaming on Tuesday presented their plans to the public.

Both companies touted the benefits they say they would bring to the city, including economic revitalization, jobs and philanthropy. They both stressed they wanted to partner with other city businesses, museums and entertainment venues.

Their presentations included models of their proposals, both in the $800 million range, while MGM included animated walkthroughs.

The companies are competing for the right to negotiate a casino deal with the city.

Any casinos have to be approved by the people of the city as well as the state gambling commission.
