A long path before approval

A number of hurdles would need to be cleared before a casino could open in Ankeny. Among them:
• The project must receive local zoning approval from the Ankeny City Council.
• Polk County supervisors believe strongly the project could not proceed unless a majority of county voters approve it in a referendum. The head of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is seeking advice on that from the attorney general.
• The commission would need to open an application period for casino licenses.
