Paladino threatens to close New York tribe casino - BusinessWeek

Republican Carl Paladino says that if he becomes governor he will close down the Turning Stone casino in Central New York if the Oneida tribe doesn't provide more revenue to the state.

The Republican-Conservative nominee says he will give the tribe two weeks to

start negotiations. If they don't work out a better revenue deal for the state he says he will shut down access roads to the casino.

The casino employs thousands and draws thousands of players to the resort each year as one of the biggest industries in long distressed Central New York.

Nearby businesses off the reservation have long complained of unfair competition because many tribal gas stations and other stores don't have to pay taxes.

The tribe and Democratic nominee Andrew Cuomo had no immediate comment.
