Police searching for gunman in Tuscany Casino shooting - KTNV Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) – An alarming attack outside the Tuscany Hotel & Casino leaves a security guard recovering from a gunshot wound.

That guard tried to help a woman while she was being held at gunpoint in the casino's parking lot early Monday morning. When the guard moved in, the gunman fired.

We're now learning that the suspect preyed on the woman as she was

exiting her car outside the casino. He ambushed her, demanding her keys. When she threw her keys, the suspect went for her purse.

Police have now revealed that the gunman got away with nothing except the gun he was carrying.

Still holding her purse, the victim is shaken but unscathed after coming face to face with a man who wanted what was hers. And he wasn't afraid to use a gun to make his demands.

"I can't imagine how desperate and how bent an individual would have to be to do such a thing," says Helen Fiske.

At the Tuscany Hotel & Casino near Flamingo and Koval, the circumstances surrounding the attempted purse snatching are rattling those who frequent the area both day and night, including those who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting.

"If (the gunman) is that brazen to start snapping at people and he has a weapon, then he needs to be apprehended," says Briscoe Bay.

Bay, who walked home past the sprawling scene, feared the worst. He was glad to learn the security guard, who was shot in the leg, is well on his way to a speedy recovery. He was treated and released from a Las Vegas hospital after racing to help the casino patron upon hearing her screams.

The description of the gunman is vague; police are reportedly looking for a Hispanic man standing about 5'10" tall who was last seen wearing dark clothing. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video for possible leads.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
