Former Congressman William Delahunt has been hired as a lobbyist for the Mashpee Wampanoags to help the tribe secure a location for a resort-style casino in Massachusetts.

Cromwell declined to reveal the details of the contract with Delahunt.
In January, the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe’s plans to build a casino on a 300-acre parcel of wooded land along Route 24 in Fall River ended when Mayor William Flanagan, who last year touted the site as the perfect location for a $500 million resort-style casino, told the tribe that the city will stick with the original plan for a biotechnology park on the land.
Flanagan had drawn criticism for taking stimulus money for a highway ramp that would then benefit the casino.
Cromwell said he is still working with Fall River officials for an alternative site. Last year, the Legislature failed to pass an expanded gambling measure that would have allowed construction of resort-style casinos in the Bay State. The measure is expected to be debated later this year on Beacon Hill.
