Wynn Hotel and Casino hosts Grand Slam for Children gala - Examiner.com

The Wynn Hotel and Casino hosted a star-studded event on October 9th, 2010. The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education hosted a cocktail reception, dinner, auction and concert. The event is the fifteenth of these “Grand Slam for Children” events he has hosted. All proceeds went to Agassi's charity.

The charity funds the Andre Agassi Preparatory Academy is

a public charter school for at-risk youth in Las Angeles which is funded through the charity. The first class graduated last year and 100 percent were accepted to college. The valedictorian, A.J. Green, performed Taylor Hicks' “Do I Make You Proud” before the auction and also sang duets with both Jason Mraz and Jennifer Hudson during the concert.

The concert featured Bill Cosby, The Canadian Tenors, Rob Thomas, Jason Mraz, Jennifer Hudson and was headlined by Sir Elton John. The event raised over $8 million dollars, a particularly impressive number considering the current state of economic affairs. Agassi was quoted as saying: ““I am both impressed and thankful for the tremendous support we have gotten for this milestone, the 15th Grand Slam.”
