Boardwalk Empire has taken the HBO viewing audience by storm much like The Sopranos did a decade ago. The show is set in

New Jersey during prohibition, and the gambling industry figures to play a major part in the series as it moves forward for the rest of this season and into the future seasons of the show.

Resorts Atlantic City is the oldest of all the AC casinos and the casino is looking to cash in on the popularity of Boardwalk Empire. Resorts is taking on the 1920's theme that is seen throughout the hit series.

Dennis Gomes is buying the struggling casino and understands that the casino is in need of a face lift if it is going to turn around its fortunes. Gomes will start that change in theme by having all dealers, cocktail waitresses, and other employees dress in costumes depicting what the men and women were wearing in the '20s.

In addition to the dress attire, Resorts will play music from the prohibition era. The entertainment will be themed after the '20s, and Gomes is hoping that all of the changes will lead to an increase in interest from gamblers on the East Coast that have been flocking not to New Jersey, but instead to Pennsylvania.

When speaking of the excitement from the 1920's era, Gomes asserted how Resorts will capture all of the things that made the decade great.

"Resorts will be all of that," said Gomes, as reported by The Associated Press. "It will define and shape the direction Atlantic City needs to take to survive in an increasingly competitive market. It will be luxurious, it will be fun, and it will be one of the leading entertainment spots in Atlantic City."

AC casinos have experienced double digit declines in almost every month since the economic recession. Increased competition and aging casinos in Atlantic City have caused the revenue declines. Several renovation and new development projects have been stalled or cancelled in recent years due to the economy.
