Local mayors push for resort casino - WWLP 22News

BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) - There is a renewed push to bring resort casinos to Massachusetts.

Chicopee Mayor Michael Bissonette, Holyoke Mayor Elaine Pluta, Easthampton Mayor Michael Tautznik and a Palmer town official were among the dozen mayors who signed a letter explaining how Massachusetts needs the jobs and revenue that a casino would bring.

The letter was sent on Tuesday to

Governor Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray and House Speaker Robert DeLeo.

The casino issue blew-up last July when DeLeo and Gov. Patrick disagreed over the details of a casino bill.

Gov. Patrick refused to sign the bill because of a provision allowing slot machines at racetracks.

After taking their oath in January, DeLeo and Murray both vowed to find "common ground" on a bill to legalize casino gambling.

Last week, the Governor said he and DeLeo have spoken about gaming and plan to discuss the issue further.

Slot parlors are still a major point of contention between Gov. Patrick and Deleo.
