Biloxi approves Margaritaville Casino Restaurant - WLOX

The casino will sit off 5th street on the edge of Biloxi's Back Bay. Plans call for about 60,000 square feet of casino, restaurant, and event center space.

Council members saw renderings of the casino during the meeting, including pictures of the restaurant. In one of the pictures, Jimmy Buffett's famous Albatross sea plane is suspended from the rafters.

"It's just an

icon identified with Jimmy Buffet that they use in all their restaurants," Cavanaugh said.

Beyond the aesthetics and entertainment, the project will create about 700 jobs in the city, according to Cavanaugh.  Developers are shooting to get a master plan and other required paperwork together by the end of the month, to land a spot on the Mississippi Gaming Commission's agenda in March.

If approved, Cavanaugh said Margaritaville could get shovels in the ground as soon as April.  Developers, he said, are looking to open the new casino at the beginning of 2012.

By the way, this project is not associated with the ill-fated Harrah's project on casino row off Highway 90.
