WAYLAND TOWNSHIP - Although traffic was moving fairly smoothly on Saturday after hundreds of people descended on Gun Lake Casino after it opened, police are still shutting down some areas.

The southbound off-ramp from U.S. 131 to 129th Avenue was shut down

Saturday afternoon, according to the Allegan County Sheriff Department.

Large numbers of people were still flocking to the casino on Saturday, but they were more spread out, said Carter Pavey, director of marketing. The longest wait was a half hour, he said.

"It's turned into a steady flow," he said, adding that he expected the crowds to pick up in the evening.

On Friday, hundreds of people gave up after hearing about a potentially hours-long wait at the$157 million casino, or were turned away by authorities. By noon, the casino was at capacity and its 2,500 parking spaces were filled.
