Update: Gun Lake Casino staff will conduct hour-by-hour assessments to determine when to let more gamblers inside

WAYLAND TOWNSHIP – The U.S. 131

off-ramps to the Gun Lake Casino are expected to be closed for several hours this afternoon as gamblers have flooded the $157 million, 76,000-square-foot facility that opened Thursday night.

Authorities say the amount of traffic headed for the casino has forced them to close off access, a jackpot scenario for the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi Indians and Station Casinos, the casino's operator.

Leaders believed the opening hours would be chaotic and expected capacity crowds, Carter Pavey, the casino's marketing director told The Press on Wednesday.

The casino has 1,400 slot and video poker machines and 28 table games.
