The River City Casino helped revenue rise by three percent, to $86.3 million. That is an increase over the $84 million that was won in the same month in 2010. The new casino may have helped increase year over year revenue, but St. Louis is still a far cry from Atlantic City in terms of revenue.
While St. Louis residents rejoiced over their figures, AC casinos were upset with their numbers, despite making over $150 million more than their St. Louis counterparts. New Jersey has a reputation as a gaming state, while Missouri is still relatively new into the casino industry.
River City has been the driving force behind the revenue revival in St. Louis, and that was shown again in January. River City won $14.4 million from gamblers, up five percent from December. The holidays always cause a slow down in betting at a casino as gamblers spend their money on gifts and holiday parties.
Harrah's and Ameristar were the top two casinos in terms of revenue in the St. Louis area. Ameristar won $22.3 million, and Harrah's took in $20.5 million. The two casinos were both down at least ten percent from the same period the previous year.
