The hard part was done back in 2009 when Ohio voters for the first time approved casino gambling in their state. It had been a long process for those who

had been advocating casinos for much of the past decade, but the end result was well worth the wait.

Now, it is residents of Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo, and Columbus that are playing the waiting game. For Clevelanders, the wait will not be much longer as the preliminary work has been complete and all that is left to do is construct the casino.

"My friends and I have been waiting for years for a casinos to come to Cleveland," said Marc Barron. "I can't wait until the day I can drive twenty minutes to the casino to play slots. I am counting the days, and so are many of my friends."

The enthusiasm exhibited by Barron is similar to what is taking place all across Cleveland. Rock Ohio Caesars is expected to be open for business in the early part of 2012, and excitement is building with each passing day. On Thursday, Dan Gilbert, CEO of Rock Gaming, announced that the company will invest $350 million to build the casino at the historic Higbee Building.

Gilbert is best known around the US as the loser in the LeBron James sweepstakes. James chose to leave Cleveland last summer and join the Miami Heat. Gilbert was outraged with how James made his decision known, and took out a full page in the local paper to blast James and assure Clevelanders that the future would be bright.

While the Cavaliers have become the laughingstock of the league, Gilbert will soon be bringing joy to the city in the form of the new casino. Gilbert and his gaming company will also be building a casino in Cincinnati. Penn National owns the rights to the casinos in Toledo and Columbus.
