The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa eliminated 272 jobs last month, leading the seasonal layoff tally which stands at 1,389 among all 11 casino hotels in Atlantic City.  This figure is more than 300 higher than the number of workers who were let go in September 2009.

Union leaders and other analysts point out that these seasonal layoffs are not unusual due to

Atlantic City’s more profitable summer tourist season, but note that the weak economy has forced employers to slash expenses even further this year.

Looking at four years of declining revenues, Atlantic City’s casinos’ latest revenue figures showed an 8.4 drop over the same eight-month period in 2009.  (See related article.)
