Spruced-up hotel rooms, guest suites and a snazzier casino floor are part of Dennis Gomes' plan to save Resorts Atlantic

City, opened in 1978 as the nation's first casino outside Nevada.

But so are love and positive spiritual energy.

Gomes got approval last week to buy the struggling casino with partner Morris Bailey for the fire-sale price of $31.5 million from lenders who had taken it over a year ago.

The veteran gambling executive and regulator whose tenure as Nevada's top casino corruption-buster was part of the 1995 Martin Scorsese film "Casino" says he'll try to harness "chi," (chee) the positive life energy embodied in martial arts.

He also says love is the most powerful force in the universe, and something to be tapped for a successful business.
