The Clark County district attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint against singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, on Friday stemming from his September 19 arrest. After wrapping up his performance at the Hard Rock Hotel &

Casino’s Wasted Space nightclub in Las Vegas, the “Just the Way You Are” singer was detained by a hotel security guard, who allegedly discovered 2.6 grams of cocaine in his possession.

According to the Associated Press, an arraignment date has been scheduled for November 18 at 8 a.m. on the felony controlled substance charge. If Mars is convicted, he faces between one and four years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

The police report clarifies that on the night of Mars’ arrest, a bathroom attendant notified authorities that the singer was taking an inordinate amount of time in a stall with a bag filled of a white, powdered substance in his possession. Upon exiting the stall, Mars was confronted by a security guard and he removed a bag of cocaine from the pocket of his jeans when he was asked to hand over the narcotics.

On a far more positive note for Mars, whose debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, is slated for release on Tuesday, his breakout single, “Just the Way You Are,” currently holds the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts.

“We congratulate Bruno Mars on his chart-topping success, and provide him with our full love and support,” a representative from Elektra Records said in a statement issued earlier today.
