The process of recounting votes cast in the Oxford casino question on the November ballot gets underway today. The citizens' initiative to allow a casino in the county won approval by less than a one percent margin, or about 5,300 votes. Opponents of the initiative requested
the recount, which is being conducted at State Police headquarters in Augusta.

More than half a million votes were cast on the issue, and it's expected to take several weeks to recount them all.

Meanwhile, developers have chosen a site in the town of Oxford for the $165 million facility, and are moving forward with their plans. Black Bear Entertainment has scheduled a public information meeting on the casino next Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Oxford Hills High School.
